Veg Momos Recipe:
For the outer cover of veg momos:
- All purpose flour- 1 cup.
- Oil-1/2 tsp.
- Salt-1/4 tsp or as required.
- Water- 2 or 3 tsp or as required.
For making the veg momos stuffing:
- Chopped cabbage-1/2 cup.
- Chopped carrots-1/2 cup.
- Chopped French beans-1/3 cup.
- Chopped capsicum-1/4 cup.
- Small sized spring onions chopped-2.
- Small Garlic finely chopped- 3 to 4.
- Soy sauce- 1 tsp.
- Black pepper-1/2 tsp or as required.
- Oil- 1 tsp.
- Salt- as required.
How to make Veg momos:
Making the outer of Momos:
Take all purpose flour, oil and salt in a bowl and mix it well
Add water as required and start kneading to make a firm dough.
Cover and keep the dough aside for 30 mins.
Veg Momo stuffing:
Finely chop all the vegetables.
In a pan add oil and then add garlic and saute for 2 to 3 seconds and then add onions and saute for 10 to 15 mins. And then add all the finely chopped veggies.
Stir the veggies for about 2 to 3 mins and then add Soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
Stir the veggies well again for 2 to 3 mins and then switch off the flame and add 1 or 2 tsp of spring onions green and check the taste and if you want more sauce, salt or pepper you can add as required. After the vegetable stuffing is ready. Let the stuffing to cool.
Shaping the veg momos:
Divide the dough into two parts.
Make a 6 to 7-inch log from the two parts. Cut the log into equal slices.
Make the balls of each slice and with a moist napkin keep them covered.
Roll each dough ball into a thin circle of 2 to 3-inch diameter. The edges have to be thin, and the center should be thick. Apply water with your fingertips or with a small pastry brush towards the circumference; This is optional.
Place 1 or 2 tsp of veggies in the center.
Start pleating by lifting one side of the edge.
Join all pleats in the center.
Another way to pleat a Momo is to just join the edges like Gujiya or Karanji.
Next bring both ends together and join the edges.
Keep all these Momos in a moist napkin until you are ready to steam them.
Steaming veg momos:
Grease a steamer pan with oil. And then arrange the momos in a pan. Steam them in an electric cooker or steamer pan. Or you can steam using an idli pan or pressure cooker to steam. Depending on the thickness of the momos cover, steam the momos for 5 to 6 mins till the outer cover becomes transparent. Don’t over cook the Momos; Then the cover becomes dense and chewy.
