French fries, finger chips or potato chips – call it whatever – these crispy, delicious fried potatoes have been a junk food favorite since ages. There is nothing compared to a full plate of crispy french fries while you are watching a movie, chatting with friends or even having a party. It will be delicious to have it with tomato ketchup. It is the most favorite starters of many people.
You cannot do french fries with any sized potato. You need to choose big or large sized potatoes for this recipe.
Ingredients For French Fries
- 5 large Potatoes
- 1 tablespoon Chilli Powder
- Oil for deep frying
Method of Preparation
First, peel off the potatoes and slightly cut on all sides of the potato to give it a nice rectangular shape. Place normal water in a bowl and put the peeled potatoes into the water to prevent the potatoes from getting discolored.
Then slice the potatoes in lengthwise and again cut it into the finger-shaped stripes. Don’t cut into thin slices. It will look good if all cut pieces are in the same size. Then again put the pieces in water.
Place a saucepan on the stove with water and let it boil. Once the water boils, add salt and chili powder to the water and let it for one boiling.
Then add potato stripes in the water and cook it for 3 minutes. Check the tenderness of the potatoes using a fork. Don’t overcook it. Otherwise, potatoes will be mushier while frying.
Drain the boiled potatoes and wash it with normal water 2 or 3 times and drain it in a colander. Place a paper towel or tissue paper on the table and spread the potatoes over it, to absorb excess water.

Heat oil in a vessel for deep frying. When oil is in medium flame drop the potatoes and fry for 5 minutes till it changes its color slightly.
Once the color turns, increase the flame to high from medium and fry till they turn a little darker. Now, drain the french fries from the oil and place it on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
Sprinkle some more salt and chili powder when the fries are hot and mix or toss them.
Crispy French Fries are ready to serve hot with ketchup.
