Chicken Katsu Recipe | Japanese Breaded Chicken Cutlet Recipe: Chicken Katsu was popularly known as the Tonkatsu. It is one of the popular Japanese recipes. This is a very delicious and simple weeknight meal. Here is how to cook the Chicken Katsu Recipe:
Chicken Katsu Recipe:
- Chicken – 2 boneless skinless breast halves
- Salt and Ground black Pepper – As needed
- All purpose flour – 1 cup
- Eggs – 3 Large beaten
- Panko Bread crumbs – 1 1/2 cups
- Vegetable oil – For frying
How to cook Chicken Katsu:
Cut the chicken breast piece into smaller pieces and beat them to thin the size of the piece.
Now sprinkle few pinches of salt and pepper over the chicken pieces. Keep the salted chicken breast in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours to bring out the juicy flavor of the chicken.
Take three large plates. One for All purpose flour, 2nd for the beaten eggs and the other for the bread crumbs.
Now dredge the chicken in the flour and coat the chicken with the flour on both the sides.
Once coating with the flour, place the chicken over the beaten eggs and coat with the eggs on both sides.
Now place the chicken over the bread crumbs and press the chicken firmly until the crumbs adhere. Once it is coated, keep it aside and do for the rest of the chicken pieces.
Add oil to a pan and heat the pan to 350 degrees F.
Place the coated chicken in the oil and start frying the chicken.
Cook the chicken until the first side is set for about 1 1/2 minutes, then flip the chicken to the other side.
Once the second side is set, flip again after another 1 1/2 minutes. Keep flipping and cook until the chicken turns golden brown for another three more minutes.
Place the chicken over a paper tissue and sprinkle a pinch of salt over it.
Chop the chicken into smaller pieces so it is easier to take with the chopsticks.
Place the chicken along with shredded cabbages and lemon wedges.
Serve the Chicken Katsu hot with Tonkatsu Sauce.
