Upma Recipe | How to cook Sooji Upma | Rava Recipe: It is one of the basic tiffin or breakfast belonging to the south Indian Cuisine. It is very simple to cook. Here is the simple way to cook the Upma Recipe:
- Rava – 1/2 cup
- Oil/Ghee – 1 tablespoon
- Cumin – 1/2 tsp
- Mustard – 1/2 tsp
- Channa Dal – 1 tsp
- Urad dal – 1 tsp
- Cashew – 6 to 8 (Halved and cleaned)
- Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
- Sliced Onions – Handful
- Green Chilli – 1 slit
- Ginger – 1/2 tsp chopped finely
- Water – 1 1/2 cup
- Hing – A pinch
- Lemon Juice optional
How to cook Sooji Upma:
Roast a half cup of rava on a medium flame until it turns crunchy. Keep stirring it to prevent discoloring.
Once it turns crunchy, transfer it to another bowl and set it aside to cool.
In a pan, heat one tablespoon of oil. Add the mustard, cumins, cashews, and the dals in the oil and saute them.
Saute them on medium flame until it turns golden in color.
Now add a handful of thinly sliced onions, a slit of green chilies, and a sprig of curry leaves. You can also add the finely chopped ginger. (This is optional)
Saute for 2 minutes or until you begin to smell the onions or curry leaves. Add a pinch of Hing as well.
Add 1 1/2 cup of water now. The water depends on the quantity of the rava used. Usually, water is added three times the quantity of the Rava.
Let it boil. Now add salt and taste the salt content. Make sure to use salt as required.
When the water begins to boil, adjust to medium flame and add the roasted rava. Add the rava in a hand and stir the water in the other.
Quickly stir the mixture to prevent the lumps. Break the lumps if any.
Reduce the flame and cover the lid.
After two minutes, open the lid and stir the upma.
Once it is done switch off the stove. Cover the lid and set it aside. Add toppings if you wish to.
Serve it hot with any chutney or curd.
