Palak pakora recipe

Ingredients:

  • Gram flour-1 cup.
  • Spinach or palak-2 cups.
  • Medium sized onion-1.
  • Chopped ginger-1 tsp.
  • Green chilli chopped-1.
  • Fennel seed powder-1 tsp.
  • Red chilli powder-1/4 to 1/2 tsp.
  • Coriander powder-1 tsp.
  • Cumin powder-1 tsp.
  •  Asafoetida-1 Pinch.
  • Sesame seeds-1 tsp optional.
  • Water-1/2 to 1 cup.
  • Salt- as required.
  • Oil- as required for deep frying.

How to make Palak pakora

Rinse the spinach leaves well and finely chop them. You need at least 1.5 to 2 cups of chopped spinach leaves

Add chopped onion 1 1/3 cup, chopped ginger 1 tsp and 1 green chilli chopped.

Next add the fennel seed powder, red chilli powder, Coriander powder, cumin powder, a pinch of asafoetida and then sesame seeds.

Next, add 1 cup gram flour and salt as required. you can also add a pinch of baking soda at this step.

Mix all the ingredients very well and keep them aside for 5 mins.

Add water in parts, remember that onions and spinach will release water when they are mixed with spice powders and salt so be careful while adding water. Mix the ingredients well and keep for 5 mins then add 1/2 cup water first. if the batter is still thick then add some more water.

Mix very well and add water as required to make a medium consistency batter.

Heat oil in a pan and when the oil is medium hot then drop spoonfuls of the pakora batter in it.

Fry the pakora till it becomes pale golden then turn over and fry the other side. Fry the pakoras until they become crisp and golden.

Remove the palak pakoras with a slotted spoon.

Drain the pakora in a kitchen paper towel to remove extra oil.
