Dry urad dal recipe
- oil-2 tsp.
- asafoetida-1 pinch.
- urad dal-1 cup.
- turmeric powder-1/2 tsp.
- green chilis-1 or 2.
- red chili powder-1/8 tsp.
- water-1/4 cup.
- Salt- as required.
- garam masala powder-1/4 tsp.
- few chopped coriander leaves.
How to make Dry urad dal
Rinse 1 cup of urad dal a few times in water and then soak the urad dal in enough water for 4 hours. soaking of urad dal is the very important step in this recipe and it also reduces the cooking time.
After 4 hours, drain all the water and again rinse the urad dal with fresh water. drain the urad dal and keep it aside.
Then add 2 tsp of oil in a 2-liter pressure cooker and heat it well, then add asafoetida to it and heat with a low flame. make sure that the asafoetida doesn’t get burnt.
Next, add urad dal to the pressure cooker and mix well.
Next add turmeric powder, green chilis and red chilli powder. You can add both green chilis and red chilli powder or you can add 1/2 tsp red chilli powder alone.
Mix very well.
Then add salt as required and add 1/4 cup water and mix well.
pressure cooker the urad dal on a medium to low flame or simmer it for 7 mins or 2 whistles.
check whether the urad dal is cooked well if it is not cooked well then add some more water and pressure cook it for 1 more whistle.
Then add garam masala powder to it and mix well. urad dal is now ready to serve.
Serve the urad dal with roti or phulkas. garnish with coriander leaves or squeeze some lemon juice on top.
